Settled Ministry Task Force

It’s Time to Talk!...

Questions? Contact

Should Rev. Eileen move from “contract” minister to a “called” (or “settled”) minister?  What is important to you for the church’s future?

Please talk to us!

We are the Settled Ministry Task Force, and we have been asked to gather input from the First Universalist Church of Rochester community regarding our church’s future and the role of Rev. Eileen Casey-Campbell.

The Contract to Call Process for Ministry | LeaderLab | UUA.org

This task force has been formed to gather information from the congregation about:

  • What long-term goals the congregation has for itself.

  • What kind of qualities we desire from a settled minister.

  • Whether or not our current contracted minister, Rev. Eileen Casey-Campbell, has those qualities.

Timeline:

September 20-October 4

Ways to give feedback:

  • Visit the Settled Ministry Task Force table during coffee hour on September 20, September 27, and October 4 and speak to members of the Task Force.

  • Come to a listening session:

- In- person: Sunday Sept. 27 & Sunday Oct. 4, after Sunday Service

- Online: Drop-In Discussion on Tuesday,  Sept. 22, 6:30pm

- Online:  via Zoom following Sunday Services on Sept. 27 and Oct. 4

  • Complete our survey,  found on this webpage!

Next steps:

Feedback will be compiled by the Settled Ministry Task Force and presented to the First Universalist Board by the end of November 2026. If the recommendation is to call Rev. Eileen to be our Settled Minister, a Congregational vote will follow.

Questions?

Bring them to the sessions listed above or ask any member of the Task Force: Ann Rhody, Dwight Montague, Katherine Mattice, Molly Bell, or Willow Shirtz, or email settledministryteam@uuroc.org

Definitions:

Contract minister: hired by the Board of Trustees and serves under an annual (or defined multi-year) contract. There is an annual, mutual review of ministry, and the Board or the minister can decide whether or not to renew the contract.

Called (Settled) Minister: the minister is called by the congregation and enters a covenantal relationship for an indefinite period of time. The congregation’s members vote to extend the call, and a called minister can only be dismissed by a vote of the congregation. There is more opportunity for transformational growth and depth.

We acknowledge with respect the Seneca Nation, Keepers of the Western Door and part of the Haudenosaunee People, on whose ancestral land First Universalist Church now stands.
